Conservation Paleobiology Workshop 2011
Researchers from around the world with diverse backgrounds in the geological and biological sciences convened in Ithaca, NY, on June 3-5, 2011, at the Paleontological Research Institution for a workshop on Conservation Paleobiology in the Coming Decades.
Participants included researchers working in near-time as well as deep-time, and traditional conservation biologists as well as paleobiologists.
The workshop was intended:
- To identify the "grand challenges in conservation paleobiology."
- To provide Sedimentary Geology and Paleobiology program officers at NSF with a concise, articulate vision for the promotion of this research area: A vision that will enable them to reach out to other programs and divisions for support.
- To identify the infrastructure needs and outreach efforts needed to make the approaches of conservation paleobiology more widespread and effective.
